From 23rd of January in 1831, the stripes of the flag of Belgium were arranged vertically, but in the order of red, gold and black. After the election of Leopold I. of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha as King of Belgium, the stripes were arranged from the 12th of October in 1831 in the order of black, gold and red what is customary until today.
