From the time of the rule of the Turks over the region of today's Bosnia-Herzegovina, a flag from the year 1831 has been handed down. The country was then an administrative district (vilayet) of the Ottoman Empire and was called "Vilayet Bosnia". The flag was plain green and showed the Turkish symbolism of crescent and star, in gold.
