At the end of the Napoleonic era, by the Congress of Vienna (March 29th, 1815), the Duchy of Warsaw was divided between Prussia, Russia and the Free State of Cracow (Kraków). The Free State of Cracow (also known as Republic of Cracow) was only about 400 km² in size. Until its annexation by Austria in 1846 it used a flag that showed two horizontal stripes in white and blue. Between 1846 and 1916 there was no longer a Poland or a Polish state. On November 5th, 1916 the Regency Kingdom of Poland was proclaimed.
