The flag of the Senate, as shown here, is likely to go back to 1920, when the Free City of Danzig was separated from the German Empire and became a Free State under the League of Nations. At that time, a completely separate flag system was developed for the Free State of Danzig. However, the Senate as an institution is much older, so the flag is probably too. Fact is that it is still used until today - many years after the annexation by Poland - in what is now called Gdansk.
