The Prince-Bishopric of Warmia (Biskupie Ksiestwo Warminskie in Polish) was founded in 1243 during the conquest of Prussia by the Teutonic Order. In 1466 it came under the rule of the Polish crown as part of Royal Prussia. In 1772 the country was annexed during the First Partition of Poland, and became connected to East Prussia. Today the region is called Warmia in Polish.
