The German Confederation, which existed between 1815 and 1866 (the German Empire had perished in 1806), actually had no flag of its own in this time. The national liberal movement, which was striving for a German nation-state, gathered again and again. So in 1817 for the Wartburg Festival or in 1832 for the Hambach Festival. Here the black, red and golden flag of the modern age was shown for the first time, also with an inscription. The revolution of 1848 then officially saw the introduction of the black, red and golden flag, which, however, was only used until 1852.
