The Sudetenland was founded on October 29th in 1918 as an own province of the disintegrating Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The Sudeten People (Sudetes) adopted the black, red and golden tricolor as the flag. On March 4th in 1919 the victors of the First World War decided that the Sudetenland had to be part of Czechoslovakia. Out of mourning over this, the Sudetes replaced the lower golden stripe of the flag by a second black stripe.
