The colors blue, white and red as the colors of France have their origin in the combination of the colors of Paris (blue and red) with the royal white of the Bourbons. They were officially introduced for the French cockade on October 4th, 1789 and were adopted for the flag in 1790. The current design and order of the colors of the flag was not determined until 1794.
