The flag of Foix is a flag which shows the image of the coat of arms as it was used for the county from the 12th to the 15th centuries. It goes back to the first counts of the House of Comminges, who ruled the country from the 9th to the beginning of the 15th century. In 1607, with the death of King Henry IV. of France, the county of Foix became part of the crown domain and a province of France, but retained certain special rights of a corporate state, so it had its own assembly of estates (a kind of parliament), or even tax sovereignty towards the king. The flag has regional significance to this day.
