Ponthieu was a county in northern Picardy with the capital Abbeville. The flag is that kind of flags, that show the image of the coat of arms, here of the Dukes of Burgundy, because Henry VI. gave the county of Ponthieu to the Duke of Burgundy in 1437. After the death of Charles the Bold in 1477, Ludwig XI. made Ponthieu to part of the crown domain.
