The Order of the Brothers of the Sword was founded in 1202 on behalf of the Bishop of Riga. In the Battle of Schaulen in 1236, the Order was defeated in the fight against the Lithuanians. It was merged with the Teutonic Order in 1237 by a decision of the Pope. The flag shows the symbol of the Order on white, the color of the coats of the knights, here, however, two crossed swords.
