This was the official flag of Hanover. After the personal union with Great Britain and Ireland ended, King Ernst August of Hanover, brother of the last Guelph king of Great Britain and Ireland, introduced the colors yellow and white as the national colors. They are the colors of the Guelph line of Calenberg-Göttingen-Grubenhagen.
