Electorate of Palatinate (Electoral Palatinate), flag, 1329-1776, size: 150 x 90 cm

The flag of the old Palatinate, which today is often used for traditional purposes, shows the coat of arms of the 12th century, which showed a red armored golden upright (leaping) lion on black. The red crown, which is ubiquitous today, was not added until the 14th century.
