France, Royal and state flag, 17th century to 1790, size: 150 x 90 cm

The color white as the royal color of the Bourbons - it is said to have its origin in the flag of Joan of Arc - became more and more important with the beginning of their rule in France. For ceremonial purposes there was also a white flag sprinkled with golden lilies to represent the House of Bourbon. In the presence of the king, a white flag sprinkled with golden lilies was used, which also showed the large coat of arms of France held by two angels in the middle. With today's words one could call the flag the standard of the king or, with some restrictions, the state flag.
